CAMPAIGN ASSISTANT - Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Established in 1956, the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) is a unique charity serving the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals throughout British Columbia. Our Agency provides services in Audiology, Employment Counselling, Seniors Outreach, Sign Language Interpreting and Communication Devices.  We offer a competitive salary and benefits, a friendly and dynamic work environment, and a chance to make a difference.   

WIDHH is currently constructing a new facility that will be completed by Fall 2019. Our charity plans to launch a public Capital Campaign in 2019.

Our Capital Campaign Department is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the following position:

2125 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC
Part-time, (3 days per week), one year contract, extendable
January 2019 to January 2020

Job Summary:

The Campaign Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative assistance, functional support to the Campaign Manager and volunteers working on the Capital Campaign.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide highly responsible and confidential assistance to the Campaign Manager
  • Preparing, assembling, editing and proofreading memos, letters, campaign news/e-blasts, foundation and corporate funding proposals, presentations and other materials to support campaign activities
  • Organize and manage campaign data entry into campaign database, including the assembly of appropriate information from all members of the campaign team
  • Organize and manage the stewardship of campaign donors; thank you letters, receipts, invitations to campaign events, inclusion in donor recognition program, etc.
  • Coordinate campaign meetings and meeting rooms as required
  • Record minutes at campaign meetings
  • Compile the appropriate support materials for meetings with donors/prospective donors
  • Ensures timely follow-up of campaign action items to the Campaign Manager for consideration
  • Provide appropriate administrative support, as necessary, in relation to capital campaign activity
  • Organize and attend campaign events (ie: orientation, cultivation events, presentations, promotion, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Must have a minimum of 5+ years experience in administrative environments, with at least 2 years working in the development department of a non-profit organization
    • Competency in Windows operating system, with emphasis on word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
    • Proven experience in CRM database management (BasicFunder experience an asset)
    • Ability to take minutes and prepare written communications as needed
    • A demonstrated ability in developing grant proposals and applications
    • A proven ability to work independently with the flexibility to take on a wide variety of assigned duties and projects
    • A demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines and work under the pressure of time constraints
    • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with senior level volunteers
    • Proven research skills and the ability to seek information from a variety of sources including computer databases, the internet and other sources in the public domain
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
    • Post secondary education combined with several years of related experience
    • Responsible and positive work attitude
    • Organized with excellent attention to detail
    • Presents professionally and is respectful of confidentiality requirements of position
