Rick is sought after by organization clients for his interpersonal skills and his expertise which touches on all aspects of NFP management including revenue generation, board management and governance, organizational development. 




“Diversity and Respect in the Workplace – A Legal Toolkit” - Sara Forte, Labour and Employment Lawyer, Founder of Forte Law
Diversity, inclusion and respect are imperatives in today’s workplace. This workshop will highlight legal tools to prevent and resolve workplace conflict, including workplace policies.

About the Speaker:

Sara Forte is an employment lawyer and founder of Forte Law. Sara has practiced exclusively in the areas of employment/labour law, and workplace human rights since 2004, and is a frequent speaker on these subjects. Sara’s team advises employees and employers, including in the not-for- profit sector.  An active community volunteer, Sara supports several local organizations, and is on the Board for Sources Community Resources Society.

"Building Through Belonging - Taking Authentic Steps Toward Being More Inclusive" - Beth Ann Locke, Director of Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University & Jeff Sodowsky, Vice President & Senior Consultant, Global Philanthropic

How are we ensuring that donors of different abilities, ages, sexual identities or orientations, ages, races, cultures and genders feel welcome? And how may we work with non-dominant-culture donors more successfully?

About the Speakers:

Beth Ann Locke
has been working with donors to help them realize their dreams of a better world through philanthropy for more than 25 years. As a fundraiser in the US and Canada, she has raised millions of dollars for hospitals, human services, the arts and higher ed. Currently, she is Director of Advancement in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University. She serves on the board of the local AFP Vancouver chapter, as Vice President of Professional Development, and on the board of the AFP Canada Foundation for Philanthropy.



Jeff Sodowsky  MBA, MA, CFRE, has been fundraising for over 30 years. Prior to becoming Vice President & Senior Consultant for Global Philanthropic, Jeff worked as Chief Development Officer for BC Women’s Hospital Foundation, Executive Director for Opera Cleveland, Acting General Director and Chief Development Officer for Vancouver Opera, Director of Education for Louisville Ballet, and Finance Director for a US Congressional campaign.

About the Speaker:

Vivian Smith, CFRE, is one of the most respected and sought-after advisors to the charitable sector in Canada. After 17 years managing her own consulting firm, she recently took on the role of executive director for the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation. Vivian is active in the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a Master Trainer and a director on its international board. She is also frequent presenter at conferences and educational sessions throughout North America.

Prior to joining KCI, Jennifer was Vice President, Development at Science World. She completed a $32.5M campaign upon her arrival and annually helped increase the overall budget, to engage British Columbians in science and inspire future science and technology leadership in BC. Jennifer is active volunteer with AFP and CAGP.

Ryan Garnett
is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) with more than 10 years of experience helping non-profits raise more money for their causes. He joined HMA in 2011. As Head of Integrated Marketing Ryan oversees the digital strategy for many of HMA’s clients in integrating their efforts through all channels including direct mail, social media, e-mail, and telemarketing. Ryan has been a speaker at a number of fundraising conferences/events including the AHP International Conference, AHP Convene Conference, and multiple AFP chapter events in Vancouver and Ottawa.



Alana Santoro
walked into the world of fundraising in 2013 at Harvey McKinnon Associates. Learning alongside Harvey and a team of knowledgeable fundraisers Alana works with large and small non-profits from full programs to project facilitation and consulting. In this “new age” of fundraising she brings with her the perfect mix of new and tested strategies that helps her clients realize their potential today and long into the future.
